Week Without Violence
For nearly 30 years YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence –
a week when YWCAs join as part of a global movement with World YWCA to end gender-based violence. There were many different opportunities to get engaged, learn about, and advocate against gender-based violence. View photos and descriptions below.
Week Without Violence Events
-
Social Media Challenge
Join us for a social media blast envisioning a world without violence.
-
Leaders Are Readers
Reading to children at a young age enriches their understanding of the world around them, enhances cognitive development, and helps them gain the language they need to express themselves. By reading to our children, we prepare them for future success, while also building a foundation of empathy for others. Each day during Week Without Violence, a different community leader will spend time reading to our childcare students. Everyone is invited to attend each reading virtually via Facebook livestream – follow us on Facebook to read along.
-
Community Conversations
Our opportunity to have open and safe conversations about building an inclusive community. We host a weekly series on Wednesdays where we illuminate issues involving race in our community and highlight the voices of people here who are making a difference. During the Week Without Violence, we host experts to discuss gender-based violence.
-
Self Defense Workshop
Learn from experts at the Green Bay Police Department who will lead this workshop empowering women to keep themselves safe. Working to create a world without violence also means equipping women with the tools they need to keep themselves safe. Officers will help women anticipate signs of danger and empower them to defend themselves against potential violence.
-
Green Bay Community Partner Wishlist Donations
Each year during Week Without Violence, we support a community partner. Bring in a laundry or hygiene item to support House of Hope Green Bay.
-
